Airplane

The model airplane has long been an early woodwork project for students. Below there are two examples of how the brief to build a model aircraft can be interpreted. Example one is based around a WW1 aircraft, while example two is based on the “Spitfire” of WW2.

The laminated curved wing construction on example two is a gentle introduction to a technique that can sometimes intimidate students. If students can realise that bending wood is quite straightforward early in their woodworking lives, they are more likely to design interesting and innovative projects using this technique later on.
